Hyundai AH2 (2018 Hyundai Santro) spied with foglamps switched on

The Hyundai AH2 will make its global debut on 23 October. Ahead of its world premiere next month, the small car, which will resurrect the Santro nameplate, has been spied with its foglamps switched on by ClubBrezza.

Unsurprisingly 'Santro' has been the top choice in Hyundai's public naming campaign for the AH2.

On 16 August 2018, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) launched the 'Naamkaran' campaign to invite its customers and fans to suggest the name for the AH2. Out of 4,44,315 entries, more than 50% are of 'Santro'. The 'i5' is the second most popular choice, followed by 'Saneon'. The rationale behind this name is that the AH2 will be positioned in a segment below the Grand i10. Voters were also aware that it would be a replacement for the Eon.

In the words of the carmaker, the Hyundai AH2 is a 'Contemporary Family Car with Modern and Stylish Tall Boy Design.' The manufacturer has focussed on making the entry-level car as spacious as possible. As is the case with most Hyundais, the Santro will offer best-in-segment features, including rear AC vents and an advanced touchscreen infotainment system.

Underpinning the AH2 is an updated version of the last generation i10's HA platform. Powering it will be a revised version of the 1.1-litre Epsilon petrol engine from under the hood of the old i10 and the Santro Xing. The motor is said to have received many revisions to help it achieve BSVI-compliance and a claimed fuel efficiency rating of 20.1 kmpl. The 2018 Santro will become the first Hyundai model to offer an optional AMT. It will also be available with a factory-fitted CNG kit.

Recharging the 'Santro' moniker for the AH2 would bring back fond memories to the millennial. (Pictured - IAB's exclusive rendering of the production-spec Hyundai AH2).
