Hyundai confirms new crossover for 2016, is likely the Hyundai ix25 - Russia
Production to begin in 2016.
Hyundai Motor CIS has announced plans for a new crossover, production of which will begin at the St. Petersburg facility in 2016. The said crossover, which the company hasn't named, will be available with 1.6-litre and 2-litre engines, besides the option of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive drivetrains.
Connecting the dots, it's evident that Hyundai is talking about the Hyundai ix25, as the company's local crossover/SUV line up already includes the ix35, Santa Fe, and the Grand Santa Fe.
Currently only available in China, the ix25 measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height. Engine options include a 1.6-litre which makes 123 hp and 150.7 Nm of torque, and a 2-litre unit that makes 158 hp and 192 Nm of torque. Both are petrol powered, and while the former is available only in front-wheel drive, the latter can be specced in all-wheel drive spec, too.
The Korean car maker is performing better than expected in the Russian market, especially with the Solaris inching closer to the number 1 spot in sales, and it recently opened the brand's first non-sale, brand experience showroom Hyundai Motorstudio in Moscow.
