Spied - Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan Automatic caught on test

Here are a couple of clear spyshots of the upcoming Hyundai Grand i10-based sedan. The sub-4 meter sedan was caught testing in Chennai, near Hyundai India's manufacturing plant, by Motor Vikatan reader, Mr. Chola.

Seen here is the petrol automatic variant of the Grand i10-based sedan.

Seen here is the automatic variant of the car, as the badge on the front fender says 'AUTO'. Since the mechanicals of the sedan will be carried over from the recently-launched Grand i10, we expect the auto-box to be a four-speed unit, synced to a four-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol engine with Dual VTVT, capable of producing 83 PS and 11.6 kgm of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox will also be offered with the petrol engine.

The diesel variant, perhaps the volume-spinner, will source its power from the three-cylinder 1.1-liter CRDi engine, which produces 71 PS and 16.3 kgm of torque, and comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Would Hyundai consider plonking the more powerful, four-cylinder 1.4-liter CRDi engine from the i20? We would wish so.

The Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan will go on sale on February 4, 2014.

The Grand i10 Sedan will be launched on February 4, a few days prior to the Auto Expo. Expect Hyundai to price the sedan competitively, as it will target the likes of the well-priced Honda Amaze and Maruti Swift Dzire.
