Hyundai HB20X Crossover joins the HB family

When Hyundai launched the HB20 in Brazil, the Korean automaker promised to expand the HB family (HB stands for ‘Hyundai Brazil’) with new and interesting products.

Within just a month’s time, Hyundai has delivered on its promise.

The automaker has launched an off-road version of the HB20 hatchback called the HB20X at the ongoing 2012 Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil. Essentially the HB20X is a slightly elevated HB20 with a rough road package.

The HB20X gets a 1.6-liter flex-fuel Gamma mill that generates 128 hp. Customers will be able to choose from a manual or an automatic variant. Power is sent to the front wheels so the HB20X is really a faux off-roader with no real mud-plugging capabilities. If you want to think of a similar vehicle, you can see the Skoda Fabia Scout.

The HB20X will be manufactured at the at Hyundai’s newly opened plant in Piracicaba and will go on sale early next year
