The Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept was unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, giving us a glimpse of what to expect in future Hyundai sedans, particularly on the next generation Genesis.

The four door coupe sports a bold fascia up front, a brushed metal grille, design accents around the boot area, a greenhouse that is sharply tapered and a sporty rear-drive sedan design marked by tight overhangs, large wheels and short rear deck.

Hyundai notes that the wheels were designed using lightweight alloys and carbon fiber.

The driver-focused cockpit features laminated and milled wood detailing and a fluidic design on the controls.

The read door is in a single rear-hinged configuration. A double-cresting-wave center console design is carried from the instrument panel into the rear seats. Analog and digital devices provide driver data and design cues here are from the aviation industry. The center console also has an iPad tablet storage station.

Instead of buttons and knobs, Hyundai uses driver eye-tracking and 3-D hand-gesture recognition to do away with manual controls. Eye-tracking, thumb controls or gesture recognition may be used to select infotainment, audio, navigation, HVAC, and smartphone connectivity functions.

There's a heads-up display (HUD) on the windshield to reduce driving distraction. Hyundai is using these technologies to set a benchmark in active driver safety technology in the future. Even the starting sequence is initiated through optical recognition.

The chassis is made of high-tensile steel and supports a RWD configuration. A five-link front and rear suspension is in place for best driving dynamics, bolted to low profile tires. Hyundai isn't ready to divulge details on the outputs, they state that drive comes from a Tau V8 engine that displaces 5.0 liters and is equipped with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT), paired to an 8-speed transmission, operated using paddle shifters.

The exhaust is lined in ceramic, and is tuned to minimize back pressure and a deep baritone note.
