Hyundai Motor hires ex-Lamborghini designer for Genesis - Report

Will lead the Genesis brand from January 2016 as its Senior Vice President.

Hyundai Motor is aggressively pushing its strategies for making the newly-established Genesis luxury brand a global hit. Announcing the high-end brand, the company revealed that it had hired Belgian automobile designer Luc Donckerwolke, who formerly worked at Lamborghini and Bentley, as the Head of Hyundai Motor Design Center. He'll be joining the Korean company in H1 2016.

The Genesis G90 will go on sale globally next year as the first Genesis model.

In the latest, the South Korean auto giant has tapped former Director of Brand and Design at Lamborghini, Manfred Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald comes with a twelve-year experience at the Italian sportscar maker and will lead the Genesis brand from January 2016 as its Senior Vice President. He will work on establishing and executing strategies for the Genesis brand to make it a prominent player in the luxury class.

The Genesis brand's design philosophy 'Athletic Elegance' is best implemented with rear-wheel drive platform, according to the company.

So far, Hyundai Motor has revealed plans for six Genesis models, one of which was the Genesis G90 unveiled earlier this month in South Korea. The second model will be the Genesis G80, essentially a rebranded second generation Hyundai Genesis. The other four new models will be an executive sedan named Genesis G70, a full-size crossover/SUV, a mid-size crossover/SUV and a sports coupe. All these models are expected to be launched globally later this decade.
