Hyundai i30 N - IAA 2017 Live
Hyundai is showcasing the performance oriented N variant of the i30 at IAA 2017 at Frankfurt. Based on the i30 hatchback, the Hyundai i30 N features performance oriented upgrades to the exterior and a 2.0 L turbocharged engine.
The redesigned front bumper gets fresh-air inlets on both sides to aid brake cooling and aerodynamics. They are lined with horizontal LED daytime running lights positioned on top. Behind Hyundai's signature Cascading Grille, there are additional air curtains. They aid performance by enhancing air flow, reducing turbulence in the wheel housing and cooling the engine more effectively. It gets black bezel headlamps, triangular third brake light housed in a glossy black spoiler and the double muffler exhaust at the back. The grille, 18/19 inch alloy wheels and the side skirt bear the 'N' logo.
The cabin features sports seats with 'N'' logo stamped in the backrest and a new 'N' steering wheel. The Hyundai i30 N gets an electronic instrument cluster with a shift timing indicator to indicate gearshifts for optimal performance. Both the rev-counter and the speedometer get a blue lightning line and are different from the standard car.
Drivers can choose from three standard drive modes- Normal, Sport and Eco. There's a chequered flag N button for engaging the N-mode. Driver aids on offer include launch control, rev matching, Electronic Controlled Suspension (ECS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electronic limited slip differential (E-LSD). It also gets something called Electronic Sound Generator (ESG) that produces a sporty engine note.
Under the hood lurks a 2.0 L turbocharged engine available in two states of tune - Standard Package with 250 PS and Performance Package with 275 PS. Both have a peak torque output of 353 Nm. The 250 PS version accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, the 275 PS version in 6.1 seconds. The Hyundai i30 N has a top speed of 250 km/h. 19-inch Pirelli P-Zero Hyundai N tyres, unique red N brake calipers, larger brake discs (18-inch – front/17-inch – rear), Electronic Limited Slip Differential (E-LSD) and Variable Exhaust Valve System are exclusive to the Performance Package.
