Hyundai Kona Electric clocks 120 bookings in 10 days of launch
Hyundai had launched the Kona Electric in the Indian market on 9 July 2019, and it has already added the first feather to the hat by booking 120 units in just 10 days of its launch.
Hyundai has also recorded 10,000 test drive requests for the Kona Electric which is another huge feat for such an expensive premium vehicle. The introductory price is INR 25.30 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India), and it could go down by INR 1.40 lakh soon if the recent proposal for a GST reduction for EVs from 12% to 5% comes to fruition.
One of the main reasons for interest around Kona Electric in India is the fact that it is the country's very first all-electric long-range SUV. It has been claimed to deliver an ARAI-certified range of 452 km when fully charged and can propel from 0-100 km/h in a claimed 9.7 seconds. It comes with permanent magnet synchronous motor which delivers 136 PS and 395 Nm of torque. This electric motor sources its juice from a 39.2 kWh battery pack, which can be fully charged using a standard AC charger in 6 hours 10 minutes. Using a 50 kW DC fast charger, 80% charging can be achieved in just 57 minutes. The electric-SUV uses adjustable regenerative braking and offers three driving modes - Eco, Comfort and Sport.
The Hyundai Kona Electric comes with a slew of advanced features such as a 7.0-inch driver information display, automatic climate control, head-up display, wireless charging and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. On the safety front, it is equipped with 6 airbags, hill-start assist, ABS with EBD, ESC, rear parking sensors and a rear camera, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard.
