India-bound Hyundai Kona Electric at the 2018 Thai Motor Expo - Live
The Hyundai Kona Electric, which was recently showcased in India at the 'Brilliant Kids Motorshow', has been displayed at the ongoing 2018 Thai Motor Expo. While the all-electric crossover will launch in India in H1 2019, currently, the only EV in the company's product portfolio for Thailand is the Ioniq Electric, which is on sale at a price of 1,749,000 baht (INR 37,059,43).
Globally, the Hyundai Kona Electric has been on sale in two powertrain variants. The base option, which is the one that's headed to India, draws its power from an electric motor that produces 136 PS and 395 Nm of torque. A 39.2 kWh battery pack feeds the engine. It has a driving range of 345 km*. The all-electric model features a 7.2 kW onboard charger that can be used to recharge the battery pack completely in six hours through AC. It can be charged to 80% of its capacity in just 54 minutes through a 100 kW DC fast charger.
The pricier variant is powered by an electric motor that is capable of producing 204 PS/395 Nm. It is fed by a 64 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed driving range of 546 km*. The battery pack can be completely recharged in 9 hours and 35 minutes through AC. The 100 kW DC fast charger takes 75 minutes to replenish it to 80% of its total capacity.
The top-spec Hyundai Kona Electric offers a long list of safety features, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Collision Warning including Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Intelligent Speed Limit Warning and Lane Following Assist.

The Hyundai Kona Electric will launch in India in July 2019. Its launch will follow the introduction of the Maruti Vitara Brezza-rivaling Styx (QXi) sub-compact SUV. The EV is likely to cost roughly INR 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
