Speaking exclusively to IAB last week, Puneet Anand, Sr General Manager (Marketing), Hyundai Motor India Ltd. revealed that the Hyundai Styx (Hyundai QXi), to be slotted below the Creta that will be pitted against the Maruti Vitara Brezza, will launch at the end of the first quarter of 2019.

The Hyundai Styx (rendered) will be a Maruti Vitara Brezza rival in India and will receive brand new 1.5L diesel and 1.0L turbo petrol engine options, with optional AMT.

Speaking on the new model, Mr Anand said:

We are very excited to launch an SUV below the Creta in the sub-4-metre segment. It will be launched just near to (end of) the first-quarter of 2019.

Earlier this month, Mr Anand told IAB that the model would launch somewhere in the first half of 2019 with many class-first features.

The Hyundai Styx will become the first-ever product from the Indian subsidiary of the South Korean company to be positioned in the highly competitive sub-4-metre SUV segment. Other than the top-selling Vitara Brezza (avg monthly sales of 13,173 units*), the new model will rival the Tata Nexon (avg monthly sales of 4,302 units*), the Ford EcoSport (avg. monthly sales of 3,567 units*), and the upcoming Mahindra S201.

The aesthetics of the Hyundai Styx will comply with the company's latest design language. Its front-end will be characterised with a Cascading grille and the Composite Lights setup, which will include sleek LED DRLs at the hood-level and headlights at mid-level. In the side profile, the Hyundai QXi will bear more than a passing resemblance to the Creta.

The Hyundai Styx will offer a range of engine options, which include a 1.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine with 118.31 hp of maximum power and a new 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with a maximum output of 115 hp. The Hyundai QXi could even feature a BSVI-compliant version of the 1.2-litre Kappa four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol motor, paired to the optional 'Smart Auto' AMT.
