Citing Hyundai Motor Europe sources, a new report from carandbike claims that the Hyundai Styx will celebrate its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show on 17 April 2019.

The Hyundai Styx will go on sale in India shortly after its world premiere in the USA.

Codenamed ‘Hyundai QXi’, the new Hyundai SUV will measure under 4,000 mm in length, and particularly in India, will go up against the nation’s top-selling SUV Maruti Vitara Brezza as well as the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300. Elsewhere, it may serve as a replacement for the Hyundai Verna (Hyundai Accent), like in the USA for instance, where sedan sales have slowed.

India is likely to get the Hyundai QXi as the ‘Hyundai Styx’, but others may get it with a different name such as the Leonis. IAB understands that the company has already applied to trademark Styx in India and South Korea last year. The engine options too will vary depending on the market. One can expect the 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as a standard fitment, a motor that is available in various B- and C-segment Hyundais globally.

In India, it is said that the Styx will arrive as the country’s first Hyundai to use the 1.0-litre T-GDI engine, producing 120 PS and 171 Nm of torque. A diesel engine is also planned, an all-new 1.5-litre unit that produces 115 hp (116.64 PS) and 250 Nm of torque. The familiar 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT naturally aspirated petrol engine is under consideration.

The Hyundai Styx will reach Indian dealerships in April, just days after its world premiere. Kia Motors will utilise this platform for their own sub-4 metre SUV that will debut at the Auto Expo 2020.
