Hyundai sub-4m SUV to launch in 2018 - Report

Reported to make world debut at 2018 Auto Expo.

According to Car and Bike, the Hyundai sub-4m SUV will launch in India in 2018, following an expected world debut at the next Auto Expo in 2018.

The report states that the production-spec model will not look anything like the boxy Carlino concept.

Hyundai unveiled the Carlino sub-4m SUV concept at the last Auto Expo, which expressed Hyundai's intent in launching an SUV that slots below the Hyundai Creta. However, the report states that the production-spec model will not look anything like the boxy Carlino concept; rather it will draw cues from the Creta as well as the new 2017 Hyundai i30.

Previous reports have suggested that the sub-4m SUV will pack a 1.0-liter T-GDI petrol engine when it enters production, while a small displacement diesel engine could also be introduced. Apparently, 60 percent of the small SUV’s development will be carried out by Hyundai India’s R&D team.

The exterior of the sub-4m SUV will draw cues from the Creta as well as the new Hyundai i30 (pictured).

It will rival established products like the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the yet-to-launch Tata Nexon. Once the sub-4m SUV arrives, Hyundai will have a strong SUV portfolio in India that also comprises of the forthcoming Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Santa Fe.
