IAB Report - Hyundai to upgrade mileage of its cars by 25% within 6 years
Aims to increase efficiency with new engines and lighter cars.
Hyundai and group company Kia have set new efficiency targets for 2020. The Korean carmakers have announced that they will increase efficiency of their cars by 25 percent within the next 6 years. The group, plan to achieve this by developing new engines, reducing the vehicle's weight and introducing eco-friendly cars.
Reports state that gasoline engines will see a fuel efficiency improvement of 11-13 percent, diesel engines will be 16-18 percent more efficient and transmissions will contribute to an increase of 2-9 percent in efficiency.
Most recently, at the Paris Motor Show last month, Hyundai showcased its new 1.0-liter three-cylinder T-GDI engine, which will be seen on the new i20 in Europe next year. The motor, which is a rival to Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost unit, produces 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque, and is likely to offer class-leading efficiency and CO2 emissions.
Along with the engine, the new 7DCT gearbox was also showcased. Hyundai said that its new gearbox results in better efficiency thanks to an electrically driven actuator. The vibrations too would be reduced as the gearbox came with an external damper, the company said.
