The Hyundai Verna was unveiled in a facelifted avatar at the 2019 Chengdu Motor Show yesterday. Along with the thoroughly changed exterior, new to the updated model is a digital instrument cluster and a floating touchscreen infotainment system.

The 2020 Hyundai Verna's extremely bold design might be a bit too much for customers outside China.

While the 2020 Verna is the first publicly revealed commercial application of Hyundai's new digital instrument cluster, spy media indicates that the 2020 Creta was its first recipient actually. This unit comprises twin gauges and an MID between them. The speedometer and fuel level are on the left side, while the tachometer and the engine oil temperature bar sit on the right side. In addition to the new instrument cluster and the new infotainment system, the outer-end AC vents are new.

As for the exterior, the 2020 Hyundai Verna borrows a little bit from here and there to look drastically different from the original model. The front-end is aggressive with new swept-back headlamps, sharper radiator grille and a more muscular bumper inspired by that of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra. At the rear, too, the new bumper is beefier and makes the new sedan look longer than before the mid-cycle refresh. The sleeker and more angular are connected via a red strip. Their weird look could be a little over the head for a few.

The facelifted Hyundai Verna measures 4,405 mm in length, 1,720 in width and 1,455 mm in height and has a wheelbase is 2,600 mm. The Chinese-spec unit pictured here employs the G4LC 73.3 kW (100 PS) 1.4L naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 6-speed AT. The Indian-spec sedan will reportedly be offered with the Kia Seltos' 115 PS 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and turbocharged diesel engines. The petrol engine could be linked to a standard 6-speed MT or an optional CVT and the diesel engine could be paired with with a standard 6-speed MT or an optional 6-speed AT.

The 2020 Hyundai Verna features a new, floating central display.

The new Hyundai Verna will arrive in the Chinese market by the end of the 2019. Its Indian launch should happen sometime around mid-2020.
