India-bound 2019 Triumph Speed Twin unveiled [Video]

For 2019, the all-new 1200 cc Speed Twin reintroduces the Triumph brand to the company’s Modern Classics line-up. The 2019 Speed Twin carries all of the contemporary custom styling of the Street Twin while adding premium details. The motorcycle is designed to deliver all the power, torque and technology of the Thruxton R in a more accessible & modern setup. It is also claimed to offer the ride and comfort of the Bonneville T120, but with more engaged ergonomics.

The twin upswept silencers with satin black painted wrap and stainless steel end caps enhance the retro look of the machine. Riding on 17-inch, 7 spoke cast aluminium wheels that are wrapped in Pirelli Rosso Corsa 3 tyres, it features full-LED lighting, 14-litre fuel tank, Monza-style locking fuel cap, bar end mirrors, USB charging socket, and engine immobiliser.

The twin-pod instrument console features riding mode setting, gear position indicator, odometer, trip settings, service indicator, range to empty, fuel level, average and current fuel consumption, access to turn off traction control features, clock, TPMS indicator (when accessory fitted), and heated grips indicator (when accessory fitted).

The Speed Twin comes in three colour choices:

  • Silver Ice and Storm Grey, with hand-painted Graphite coach line and white stripe
  • Korosi Red and Storm Grey, with hand-painted Graphite coach line and white stripe
  • Jet Black

Mechanical specifications on the roadster include a 1200 cc, liquid cooled, 8-valve, SOHC, 270-degree crank angle parallel twin Bonneville engine, updated for the new Speed Twin. The motor delivers 97 PS of peak power @ 6,750 rpm and 112 Nm of peak torque that is available at 4,950 rpm. The motor feature torque assist clutch and three riding modes – Sport, Road and Rain. Linked to the ride-by-wire system, the selectable modes come with dedicated throttle maps and traction control settings.

The motorcycle is built around a frame developed from the Thruxton R. The chassis is combined with the cartridge front forks and twin rear suspension units with adjustable spring pre-load. Stopping power comes from twin Brembo 4-piston axial callipers on the front with twin discs and a 2-piston floating calliper and single disc on the rear. ABS and switchable traction control come as standard.

The 2019 Speed Twin modern-classic will make its way to the Indian market. We are yet to hear an official launch date.
