India-bound 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS unveiled
Triumph Motorcycles has unveiled the 2020 Street Triple RS for the UK. The 2020 iteration of the flagship Street Triple model gets a Euro 5 engine that packs a higher torque output and a meatier mid-range. In this post, we cover all the updates on the 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS.

In terms of styling, the new Street Triple RS packs a much more aggressive look than its predecessor. The biggest visual upgrade is visible on the front fascia that features new LED headlights and Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) design. The twin-pod headlight is claimed to be whiter and brighter than before. Another addition the front fascia is the new fly-screen and air intake that are more pronounced than the outgoing model.
The bodywork, too, has undergone revision for a more angular and sporty look with cleaner lines. The side and rear panels, seat cowl and belly pan are all new. We can also see a revised design for the silencer that is more compact than before. The outlet is garnished with a carbon fibre finisher with Triumph badge branding. The new silencer is said to be freer flowing due to the twin catalyst system. The motorcycle also gets new mirrors, a new branded handlebar clamp, blacked-out control plates and rear footrest hangers and satin metal heel guards.
The new Street Triple RS is available in two colour options in the UK – Matt Jet Black with Aluminium Silver and Yellow decals and Silver Ice with Diablo Red and Aluminium Silver decals. Both colour options are accompanied by hand-painted Diablo Red wheel pinstripes and an Aluminium Silver rear sub-frame.
The engine has undergone changes to comply with the Euro-V emission norms, although that does not necessarily mean a compromise in performance. The inline three-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 12-valve (4-valve per cylinder) motor retains the 765 cc displacement, but it is claimed to deliver a 9% higher mid-range torque delivery now. The peak torque now stands at 79 Nm at 9,350 rpm as against 77 Nm of peak torque at 10,800 rpm before.
The power is also claimed to be higher by 9% in the mid-range on the 2020 iteration. The peak power output of 123 PS, which is identical to the Euro-IV model, comes at 11,750 rpm. The 2020 updates bring new exhaust cam and new machining on the crankshaft, clutch and balancer to the motorcycle. Triumph Motorcycles has also retuned the throttle for improved response. The British marquee claims a 7% reduction in rotational inertia. The motor is linked to a six-speed transmission that packs a slipper and an assist clutch. The Triumph Shift Assist, up and down quickshifter is available as standard on the RS model.
The 2020 Triumph Street Triple also gets better electronics. The TFT-screen now gets MyTriumph connectivity system software along with a Bluetooth module. The system can be used to access functions such as phone and music operation, GoPro action camera interaction and turn-by-turn navigation via switch cubes. The TFT screen also benefits from 2nd generation graphic schemes, in four different styles, and four different colours, and it can be adjusted (for angle) as per the rider’s preference. The motorcycle also gets self-cancelling indicators.
The Street Triple RS comes with ride-by-wire and five riding modes – Road, Rain, Sport, Track and Rider configurable. The modes adjust the throttle response, ABS (adjustable) and traction control (switchable) settings. The Rain mode restricts the power to 100 PS. All the riding modes are selectable on the go.
The premium hardware specifications include 41 mm Showa big piston forks with 115 mm travel at the front and Öhlins STX40 piggyback reservoir monoshock with 131mm rear wheel travel at the back – both fully adjustable. The anchoring department comprises Brembo M50 4-piston radial monobloc callipers and a Brembo sliding calliper at the front and back respectively. A Brembo ratio and span adjustable brake lever also comes as standard.
The UK-spec model gets Diablo Supercorsa SP v3 tyres, and the Indian-spec model will pack the same rubber. Triumph has also worked on pillion ergonomics, and the 2020 Street Triple RS gets an even higher passenger seat than the outgoing model. The new setup aims to provide improved leg space.
The motorcycle can be further customized with over 60 accessories. The list includes scrolling LED indicators, a new flyscreen visor, new machined mirrors and reservoirs, internally wired multi-setting heated grips, tail tidy and clear rear light. A Bluetooth module is also part of the optional accessories.
