India-bound Suzuki S-Cross - Auto Shanghai Live

Already available for sale since 2013.

Suzuki is showcasing the S-Cross crossover at the Auto Shanghai 2015, which will arrive in India later this year. In the Chinese market, the S-Cross (when launched in 2013) was priced from 109,800 yuan (INR 11.06 lakhs) for the base variant to 154,800 yuan (INR 15.7 Lakhs) for the top-end model.

Compared to its global predecessor, the SX4, the S-Cross looks a bit bigger and fresher. Like with most compact crossovers, it features black plastic cladding that adds a sense of ruggedness to the package. Inside, the cabin has familiar design, with some parts borrowed from the Swift. Being a premium product from Suzuki, it has good levels of fit and finish.

The Chinese-spec S-Cross is powered by a 1.6-liter engine with 120 hp and 158 Nm. Earlier reports suggested that Suzuki will also launch the S-Cross with a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that could produce more power than the 1.6-liter unit.

The K14B unit, which the new engine is based on, is the same mill offered for the Maruti Ciaz and Eritga, which produces 92 hp and 130 Nm of torque in the former. It's likely that the Indian-spec S-Cross will also feature the 1.4-liter petrol engine.

An Indian launch is expected to take place in May, reportedly. In a hatchback-populated product lineup, the S-Cross will be the first compact crossover offered by Maruti for the Indian market.
