Is the Honda Scoopy coming to India?

The Honda Scoopy gets an anti-theft alarm along with an answer back system.

A report in MotorOctane suggests that HMSI (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd) is planning to introduce the Honda Scoopy to the Indian market. The automatic scooter is said to have been patented for the India, however, we would request readers to take this news with a pinch of salt as Honda India has traditionally developed products for India and not brought forward a global model. Manufacturers file patents in India regularly but don't introduce every one of them.

This is not the first time there is media speculation on Honda readying a Yamaha Fascino and Vespa challenger for the Indian market. Called the Metropolitan in the US and Scoopy in Indonesia, the scooter has been seen with different powertrains. The Indonesian Honda Scoopy gets a 108.2 cc mill producing 9.1 PS of power and 9.4 Nm of torque.

The Honda Scoopy, if introduced in India, is expected to harness power from the tried and tested 109.19 cc carburetted mill (the Scoopy around the world is fuel injected) from the Honda Activa 4G. The BSIV compliant mill, coupled to V-matic gearbox produces 8 bhp of maximum power and 9 Nm of peak torque.

Honda India can go a step ahead and plonk in a 125 cc mill from the 2017 Honda Activa 125. This will give the Honda Scoopy further leverage to take on Yamaha and Vespa.

The Indonesian Honda Scoopy gets premium features like Idling Stop System and LED-projector headlamp. The Honda Scoopy has been priced in Indonesia at IDR 17,800,000 (on-road Jakarta).
