Will rival the Mercedes C Class and Audi A4 primarily.

Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd. (JLRIL) today announced that the Jaguar XE will have its market launch on February 3, 2016 at the Auto Expo 2016. The brand confirmed that the XE is available for orders across its 23 dealerships in the country.

A 2L petrol engine will be available with 200 PS or 240 PS, paired to an 8AT.

Initially, the Jaguar XE will be available only with petrol engines, the company said in a statement. The Jaguar XE for India will be launched with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. For India, this engine will be offered in two tuning states: 200 PS and 320 Nm or 240 PS and 340 Nm.

The India-spec XE will feature Jaguar's All Surface Progress Control (ASPC), a panoramic sunroof, Torque Vectoring by Braking, Softgrain Windsor leather seats, mood lighting, a navigation system, a 380 Watts Meridian audio system and a surround camera system.

The XE is based on the aluminium rich iQ platform, which also underpins the F-Pace and the new XF.

The XE for India is expected to be assembled at the brand's Pune facility through CKD kits. Measuring 4.6 meters, 1.85 meters and 1.4 meters in length, width and height respectively, the XE is based on the aluminium-intensive iQ platform. The launch of the diesel variants of the XE is expected to follow in the course of 2016.

The Supreme Court's recent ban on diesel vehicles with engine capacity larger than 2,000 cc in NCR has hindered sales of luxury automobiles and several non-luxury SUVs. The XE diesel could be introduced post the lifting of the ban.
