Guangzhou Live - India-bound Jaguar XE

Based on Jag's new iQ platform.

Jaguar's eagerly awaited 3-series rival, the XE, also made its appearance at the ongoing 2014 Guangzhou Motor Show in China. The car made its public appearance at a grand event in London early this year. To be positioned straight against midsize executive sedans like BMW 3 Series, Mercedes Benz C-Class, and Audi A4, the XE is Jaguar's first car in the segment in a very long time.

In the Chinese market, the car will be available with a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of design, it's a proper Jaguar. The front end is striking, thanks to the well-sculpted bonnet and a wide grille flanked by XJ-like but sharper-looking headlamps. The rear complements the front and the interior too exudes the class a Jaguar is supposed to have, while offering a low driving position and a decent amount of space for both passengers and luggage alike.

Extensive use of aluminium means the car is very light, too, hence aiding dynamics and efficiency. It is 4,672 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,416 mm tall. Another key talking point about the XE is Jaguar's InControl apps that can connect to Android and iOS smartphones.

The new XE is expected to launch in India by the end of 2015 or by early 2016.
