Jaguar has unveiled the most serious road-going but track-ready car, the Jaguar XKR-S GT, at the New York Auto Show.

The car is developed by Jaguar's ETO division and is evolved from the XKR-S. The track focused GT benefits from an array of bespoke aerodynamic elements and suspension developments which offer higher downforce and better high speed cornering ability.

The XKR-S GT achieves a maximum down force of 145 kg, thanks to the front splitter, dive planes, extended wheel arch spats, an elevated rear wing, rear diffuser and an aluminium valance. The carbon fiber brake system is first for a production Jaguar and features 6 piston calipers up front and 4 piston calipers at the rear.

The new suspension system endows the car with a wider front track, increased camber, revised bushings and new steering system with faster ratio. Height adjustable adaptive dampers with race-derived twin spring system are used to carry the weight of the car.

Jaguar says that the suspension has been engineered with knowledge gained from the development of the Jaguar F-Type.

Powering the XKR-S GT is the time tested 550 PS supercharged V8 engine that is serving on the regular XKR-S. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission which turns the wheels through an active electronic differential. 0-100kph comes is 3.9 seconds and the top speed is limited to 298 kmph (186 mph).

Only 30 units of the Jaguar XKR-S GT will be built, making it the rarest R model in history.
