The Jawa classic and Jawa Forty-Two have a waiting period of up to six months depending upon the model and colour options, according to the dealerships.

Jawa Motorcycles is emphasising more on quality than quantity, hence the high waiting period. The Jawa standard (pictured) pays homage to the original Jawa 250 classic of the 1960s.

Classic Legends recently inaugurated two new dealerships in Pune and three dealerships in Bangalore this week, with more showrooms set to commence operations in the coming days. The primary reason for the high waiting period is attributed to the company’s emphasis on quality control.

Online bookings (at INR 5,000) commenced post the motorcycles were launched in November, while the brick and mortar dealerships too have started taking reservations for the Jawa classic and the Forty-Two, which has amplified the waiting period. Classic Legends recently revealed the Jawa Black and the Jawa Grey colour options for the classic.

Classic Legends have commenced production of both the motorcycles at Mahindra’s Pithampur plant in Indore. Deliveries for the Jawa and the Forty-Two are expected to begin by the end of January. Dealerships have already started offering test rides of both the motorcycles to prospective customers.

The Jawa Forty-Two has been priced at INR 1.55 lakh, while the classic costs INR 1.63 lakh. The company also unveiled the Jawa Perak bobber, priced at INR 1.89 lakh (all the prices are ex-showroom Delhi), which will be introduced later next year. The company has today launched the dual-channel ABS variants of the Forty-Two and the classic. These bikes will be delivered from June 2019.

Jawa Motorcycles reveals that it will cater to the niche segment with highly desirable modern-classic motorcycles, and does not intend to be a mass-market player.

The Jawa Forty-Two is the aggressive version of the classic, which features a lowered handlebar along with a committed riding posture. It draws inspiration from the custom bike culture with its bright paint schemes.

According to the company, the target customer is someone who is willing to dive into the heritage of the brand, while also being able to buy a lifestyle of retro yet evocative products and accessories. The Jawa motorcycles are powered by a 293cc engine that makes 27 bhp of power and 28 Nm of torque, while it pairs to a 6-speed gearbox.
