Jawa Motorcycles have revealed that the Jawa classic and the Jawa Forty-Two will receive rear disc brake and dual-channel ABS in Q2 (April-June) 2019.

The Jawa classic (pictured) competes with the Royal Enfield Classic 350, while the Forty-Two rivals the Thunderbird 350X.

The introduction of dual-channel ABS is likely to increase the prices by around INR 10,000-15,000. At present, the Jawa classic costs INR 1.63 lakh, while the Jawa Forty-Two retails at INR 1.55 lakh (both the prices are ex-showroom Delhi).

The Jawa and Jawa Forty-Two already comply with the upcoming safety norms as both the bikes are equipped with a single-channel ABS unit. However, the absence of a rear disc brake and dual-channel ABS is the only chink in its armour and something that hasn't gone down too well with the enthusiasts.

In comparison, Royal Enfield has started introducing dual-channel ABS on its range of bikes in the domestic market. Jawa Motorcycles has duly taken the feedback from its consumers and the media alike. The move could also be aimed at offering the bikes at an accessible price point (for the single-channel unit) while providing the top-spec model to those who give utmost priority to safety and are will to shell out more money.

Interestingly enough, Classic Legends also showcased the Jawa Perak bobber at the launch of the other two bikes, which comes equipped with a rear disc brake and twin-channel ABS. The Perak is a factory custom bobber that will be launched later next year.

Coming back to the Jawa and the Jawa Forty-Two, both the motorcycles employ a 293 cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve motor that is tuned to generate 27 bhp of power and 28 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed gearbox transfers control to the wheel via a final chain drive. The motor has been tuned for better low-end and mid-range performance. Various reports have suggested that the top-end performance is lacking. Both the motorcycles will rival the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Thunderbird 350.
