Anupam Thareja, Founder, Classic Legends, had confirmed in September that the Jawa motorcycles would arrive in India “before the end of the year”, and now, it seems they’re on time to introduce the new products.

Details about the motorcycles that will be launched in India are still scarce. The three products will use the new engine that was unveiled by Classic Legends on October 11.

On October 11, Classic Legends unveiled the BS-VI ready engine that will power the new Jawa motorcycles. Now, Jawa has announced that it will reveal the new motorcycles for the Indian market, featuring this engine, on 15 November, 2018. As reported in September 2018, the brand will recommence its India operations with three new motorcycles. The finer details are still not available.

What we do know, is the fact that the motorcycle's new BSVI-compliant engine is a 293 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, fuel injected unit that will deliver 27 bhp of maximum power and 28 Nm of peak torque. The engine is tuned to offer a healthy mid-range and a flat torque curve. Special attention was paid to get the unique exhaust note of the old Jawa motorcycles from the new motor. A team of sound engineers worked extensively through countless cycles of harmonic pipe combinations and multiple other permutations to achieve the exhaust note.

Old Jawa motors inspire the engine’s design but it is fitted with all the modern hardware to comply with the new emission norms. It is claimed to be strong enough to last a lifetime.

The brand has already started to receive a positive response and as many as 64 dealers have already expressed their interest in the brand. That number could go to at least 100 by the time the motorcycles arrive in the market.

We should hear more details about Jawa Motorcycles and their prices on November 15, 2018.

Apart from Jawa, Mahindra & Mahindra-owned Classic Legends plans to reintroduce the BSA brand to the Indian market. Moreover, it has also expressed its interest in reviving Peugeot Motorcycles. Prakash Wakankar, CEO, Mahindra & Mahindra (two-wheeler business) had said in an interview:

We will see three very distinct heritage, with interpretation from Britain (BSA), a combine of Europe and India (Jawa) and a French interpretation with Peugeot Motorcycles.

While the engine draws styling cues from old Jawa motors, it is fitted with modern hardware and is BS-VI ready.
