Jeep Compass production in India crosses 25,000 units
The Jeep Compass’ production in India commenced in June last year. At the end of last month, the SUV’s production crossed 25,000 units.
The Jeep Compass is the first made-in-India Jeep. It is manufactured in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra at a plant jointly owned by FCA and Tata Motors. This plant is the only one in the world where the right-hand drive version of compact SUV is made. So, in addition to the domestic market, the India-made Jeep Compass serves other RHD markets like Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the UK as well.
FCA launched the Jeep Compass in India in July last year and started its deliveries August 2018 onwards. Later, in October the same year, it started exporting the C-SUV from India. From the 25,000+ units built so far, the company has exported over 5,000 units.
The Jeep Compass is available in India with two engine options: 1.4-litre Multiair turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre Multijet II turbocharged diesel. The petrol engine develops 162 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or the 7-speed DDCT dual-clutch automatic transmission. The diesel engine produces 173 PS and 350 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard diesel engine model, while a 4WD system is optionally available.
