26 December 2018 -

IAB reader Rajat Sirsat has spotted a test mule of the 'Redline Pearl' Jeep Compass Trailhawk on the Aurangabad-Pune highway. The latest sighting takes place less than a month after a test mule in the 'White Clear' paint shade was spotted near Pune.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is already under series production at FCA's Ranjangaon facility, but only for export markets.

Visually, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk can be differentiated from the top-spec Limited trim with the matte black decal on the hood, a distinctive grille trim, unique alloy wheels, the iconic 'Trail Rated' badge on the front fenders and the 'Trailhawk' badge on the boot lid.

The interior of the Jeep Compass Trailhawk comes draped in 'Monotone Black'. The upholstery features Ruby Red stitching and the Trailhawk logo embroidered in the same shade of red. The Indian-spec model will likely miss out on irrelevant equipment, like the heated seats for instance. This should help the company price the new model more competitively.

Powering the Indian-spec Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be a BSVI-compliant version of the 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine that powers the standard variant. The oil burner will come mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, which will finally mark the debut of an automatic transmission option in the diesel-powered Compass. The Trailhawk is a more accomplished off-roader than its regular sibling. This is owing to the fitment of the Jeep Active Drive low-range 4WD system, the addition of 'Rock Mode' to the Selec-Terrain 4WD system, hill descent control, 20 mm of increment in the ground clearance and optimised Approach- and Departure-angles.

The introduction of the Jeep Compass Trailhawk will mark the debut of the automatic transmission option for the diesel variant.

The Jeep Compass Trailhawk's launch will take place in H1 2019. It is expected to cost close to INR 30 lakh (ex-showroom). The more rugged variant is already being produced at FCA's Ranjangaon facility for export markets.
