Even before the prices of the Jeep Compass were announced, FCA India was reporting 5,000+ bookings for the SUV. With a starting price of just under 15 lakhs, the number of buyers queuing up at dealerships is rising thick and fast.

An aggressive price tag seems to have worked for the Jeep Compass, and the margins should get better with the availability of the diesel AT variant next year.

IAB learns first hand that the current waiting period for the Compass stands at three months. Moreover, prospective customers have to wait for hours just to get a test drive of the SUV. The first batch of the India-made Jeep Compass was delivered to customers on August 5 at Fiat's plant in Ranjangoan where the SUV is manufactured. For now, deliveries of only the diesel variants have begun, with petrol variants reaching customers around Diwali.

FCA launched the Compass in India on July 31 at a starting price of INR 14.95 lakhs for the base petrol Sport trim going up to INR 19.40 lakhs for the Limited (O) petrol automatic version. The Jeep Compass diesel ranges from INR 15.45 lakhs for the base Sport trim to INR 20.65 lakhs for the Limited(O) 4x4 manual (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

For now, FCA is handing over only the diesel variants of the Compass to customers. Deliveries of the petrol variant are slated to commence by Diwali while the diesel AT is expected by end of the FY.

A 7-speed DDCT (Dry Dual Clutch Transmission) is available, but only on the top end Limited and Limited (O) petrol trims. The Jeep Compass diesel automatic variants are expected to arrive in showrooms before the end of this fiscal year.
