Report - Jeep to rival Range Rover with a new flagship SUV

The Grand Wagoneer nameplate would be revived.

Autocar UK reports that American SUV specialist, Jeep, will be vying to take on the high-end 4x4 Range Rover with a new flagship SUV.

Jeep currently has the Grand Cherokee as its most expensive model. Mr. Mike Manley, Jeep's global brand director has informed the publication that the Grand Wagoneer nameplate would be revived for the upcoming luxury SUV.

The official is confident that the premium product in question will compete with its intended rivals "very very effectively". However, Mr. Manley stopped short of divulging any sort of technical details of the new range-topping offering. It is expected that some amount components could be borrowed from the Grand Cherokee.

While the brand chief confirmed that the Range Rover will be the main target, he ruled out a possible rivalry with the upcoming Maserati Levante which is also a Fiat-Chrysler Group product.
