Facelifted Jeep Renegade planned for Indian launch in H2 2019 - Report

Autocar India reports that Jeep India will launch the Renegade in its facelifted avatar in H2 2019. The FCA-Tata Ranjangaon plant at high localisation levels will manufacture the Jeep Renegade for local sales.

Jeep India will launch the Renegade in its facelifted avatar in the second half of 2019.

The Renegade will be pitched as a rival to premium compact SUVs Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur, with a recent report pegging its starting price at around INR 10 Lakhs. What is interesting to note is that the Renegade was in the pipeline for launch when FCA confirmed the Jeep brand in India in late 2012. The company then had a change of heart but appears to have reversed the decision.

The Renegade will slot directly under the Compass and could appeal highly to SUV buyers with its old school boxy, Wrangler-inspired styling.

The current Renegade measures 4,236 mm long, 1,805 mm wide and 1,667 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,570 mm and a boot capacity of 354L. It could source the engine lineup from the Compass that uses the 2.0L Multijet turbodiesel and 1.4L T-Jet turbopetrol, but may be detuned in the interest of model hierarchy. Jeep's 4WD Active Drive system could service top-end ‘Limited’ variants.

The main production hub for LHD and RHD Renegades is the FCA plant in Melfi, Italy. Other regional places of production include Pernambuco, Brazil and Guangzhou, China. Like the Compass, the FCA-Tata Ranjangaon plant could also serve as a manufacturing hub of the Renegade for RHD markets like the U.K, South Africa and Australia.
