Geneva Live - Jeep Renegade (India-bound next year)
The entry-level Jeep Renegade received its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show today, ahead of its market debut in 100 countries, including India.
Drawing plenty of design inspiration from bigger Jeeps, the car sticks on to its family's boxy shape, and features the signature seven-slot grille and high ground clearance. Its aerodynamic drag coefficient is 0.36, and the vehicle will also come in a trail-rated variant dubbed 'Trailhawk 4x4' wearing 17-inch all-terrain tires and a Selec-Terrain system.
The Renegade is based on the Fiat 500L's platform. At the front it gets newly made MacPherson strut suspension system, and Chapman struts at the rear. All four wheels get disc brakes and the Renegade is the smallest vehicle to receive a 9-speed automatic transmission that debuted on the Cherokee last year.
The vehicle will be sold in 16 powertrain combinations, formed by four MultiAir petrol engines, two Multijet diesel engines and a flex-fuel E.torQ engine matched to two manual transmissions, one dual-clutch DDCT and the aforesaid nine-speed automatic transmission.
A high point on the interior of the Jeep Renegade is the Uconnect infotainment system with a 5 or 6.5-inch touchscreen display. It offers Bluetooth, DAB and HD radio, Sirius service, USB & AUX ports, as well as digital media broadcasting. The driver also has a 7-inch reconfigurable display that acts as the instrument cluster.
An open-air roof panel systems called 'My Sky' would be offered in some variants while the company's customization arm Mopar, has presented a full selection of accessories from door sill guards to roof boxes.
