IAB Report - JLR announces Special Vehicle Operations technical centre at Ryton, UK

The new technical centre will create 100 highly-skilled jobs.

JLR has announced that it has identified Prologis Park, Ryton, near Coventry, UK, for its new Special Vehicles Operations (SV) division's technical centre.

The SV technical centre will have an investment of 20 million pounds on specialist equipment and bespoke commissioning suite.

The company says that the upcoming establishment will be its global centre of excellence for high performance vehicles and high-end luxury bespoke commissions. The heritage department of the new division will operate at the new facility in Browns Lane, Coventry, which has already started building the new Lightweight Jaguar E-Types.

The operations at the Ryton technical centre are set to begin towards the end of this year with 150 Jaguar and Land Rover specialists. JLR says that some 100 of those highly skilled engineering and technical jobs will be new. The automaker will invest 20 million pounds (about INR 203 crores) in installing specialist equipment and customer commissioning suite at Ryton.

The F-Type Project 7 will be the first special vehicle to take shape at the Ryton facility.

The new technical centre will comprise Formula 1 style flexible workshops, specialist paint studio and a VIP customer commissioning suite for bespoke services and premium vehicle personalization.

The first vehicle to be hand built at the SVO technical centre will be the production version of the Jaguar F-Type Project 7 that was shown at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car will start is life at JLR's Castle Bromwich plant before being transferred to Ryton for completion.
