Autocar India reports that Kawasaki may launch a road-legal dual-purpose bike at the 2018 Auto Expo next month. As per the media house, the product could be similar to the 2018 Kawasaki KLX250.

The bike would be a segment-first if Kawasaki launches it.

Kawasaki already sells the KX450F and the KLX450R, apart from KX100 and KX250F in the country. But these bikes are not road-legal and are meant for off-road purposes only. Kawasaki could change this with the introduction of a dual-purpose bike.

The 2018 Kawasaki KLX250 made its way into the US market in September, last year. The new bike features KX-inspired bodywork; full digital instrumentation, and fork protectors. Powering the 2018 Kawasaki KLX250 is a 249 cc single cylinder DOHC engine with liquid cooling and fuel injection. The powerplant mates with a 6-speed gearbox. Kawasaki has not revealed the power and torque figures yet.

In the US market, the bike costs USD 5,349 (INR 3.4 lakhs).

Coming to the cycle parts, the bike comes with fully adjustable suspension for both front and rear wheel. The front end features a 43 mm inverted cartridge-style fork, while the rear is a gas-charged Uni-Trak monoshock. The front wheel travel is 255 mm while the rear stands at 230 mm. Brakes include 250 mm front and 240 mm rear disc. If Kawasaki decides to launch the bike, it would make sense if they bring the motorcycle via CKD route. Otherwise, it would end up being prohibitively expensive for a quarter-litre dual purpose motorcycle.
