Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R starts reaching Indian dealerships
Kawasaki’s newest entrant in the Indian market, the Ninja ZX-6R, has started to arrive at the dealerships in the country. ANZEN Kawasaki, the Mumbai outlet of the Japanese two-wheeler brand, has shared the first photographs of the motorcycle on its social network pages. The first unit is the KRT edition with the Lime Green colour option. The outlet will also hold a dealership level unveiling event on Sunday, 3 February.

Pre-bookings for the Ninja ZX-6R commenced in October 2018, followed by the market launch on 15 January 2019. Kawasaki said in an announcement that the Ninja ZX-6R received an overwhelming response with an excellent number of bookings. The new middleweight motorcycle costs INR 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom India). It is brought to India via the CKD route, which enabled Kawasaki to price it competitively.
For that amount of money, buyers get a plethora of features and power. The list of equipment on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R include full LED twin-pod headlights and styling cues that are inspired by its litre-class sibling, the ZX-10R. The fairing integrated blinkers at the front give the fascia a clean look. The cockpit features an analogue tachometer, accompanied by a digital display. The tachometer sits in the centre with the telltale indicators on its left.
Rider aids on the motorcycle include KIBS (Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System), KQS (Kawasaki Quick Shifter) and KTRC (Kawasaki Traction Control). The ZX-6R rides on 6-spoke, lightweight mag wheels that come wrapped in Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 soft-compound tyres.
Mechanical specifications include a 636 cc in-line four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valves (4-valves per cylinder) engine that churns out 130 PS of maximum power at 13,500 rpm and a peak torque of 70.8 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The motor sends the power to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox. Stopping power comes from dual semi-floating 310 mm petal discs with dual radial-mount, monobloc, opposed 4-piston at the front and single 220 mm petal disc with single-bore pin-slide, aluminium piston at the rear.

With the Yamaha YZF-R6 nowhere in sight for the Indian market, and the Triumph Daytona 675 no longer available, there is no direct threat to the Kawasaki ZX-6R in terms of displacement. The closest rival to the motorcycle is the Ducati Panigale 959 that is sold at an ex-showroom tag of INR 13.97 lakh.
