Kawasaki is reportedly developing the Z400 naked roadster for the global markets. If market rumours are to be believed, the Kawasaki Z400 will make its global debut at the EICMA 2018 in Milan, Italy.

The Kawasaki Z400 could borrow design cues from the flagship Kawasaki Z1000 (pictured).

The company has filed emission documents for the ER400DK (speculated Kawasaki Z400), with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Kawasaki essentially has a Z variant of almost every Ninja model, and the Z400 doesn’t come as a surprise. The bike will join the likes of the Kawasaki Z250, Z300, Z650 and the Z1000.

The Kawasaki Z400 is expected to share its engine, chassis and other mechanicals with the Kawasaki Ninja 400. Apparently, the frame will be modified to suit the street manners of the naked roadster. While details aren’t available, expect the Z400 to take design inspiration from the flagship Kawasaki Z1000.

The Kawasaki Z400 will be powered by a 399 cc, 8-valve, DOHC, parallel-twin cylinder engine with fuel injection. On the Ninja 400, the liquid-cooled motor is tuned to churn out a maximum power of 48.3 bhp at 10,000 rpm along with 38 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. A slipper-clutch assisted six-speed gearbox transfers drive to the wheel.

The Kawasaki Z400 is likely to feature the same 41 mm telescopic front forks and a bottom-link, Uni-Trak, gas-charged mono-shock at the back with adjustable preload. Braking force will come from petal discs at the front and rear with standard dual-channel ABS. The Z400 is expected to feature LED lighting all around.

The Kawasaki Z400 will share the chassis, engine, and other mechanical parts with the Ninja 400 (pictured).

The Kawasaki Z400 is likely to come shod with 17-inch alloy wheels that should pair with 110-section and 150-section tubeless tyres at the front and back respectively. If launched in India, the Z400 will rival the KTM 390 Duke. We can expect India Kawasaki Motors to retail the Z400 at around INR 4 lakh (ex-showroom), with some amount of localisation.
