Kia K8 spotted completely undisguised
Could debut at the NAIAS 2017.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011, Kia unveiled the Kia GT concept, a compact 4-door sports sedan. It was the company's first concept car with a rear-wheel drive drivetrain layout.
Now 5 years later, the concept has metamorphosed into a production car, a new spyshot from the Korean web reveals.
Codenamed Kia CK, the production model could be the 'Kia K8' in Korea, while the brand 'Kia Stinger' could be used in countries where Kia does not have alphanumeric names.
Up front, the Kia K8 looks like any business sedan, but moving to the sides it turns quite dramatic with the squat rear-end. The sleek greenhouse and the Kammback body style hints that the newest Kia is aiming for the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and the Audi A5 Sportback. Chrome-finished, circular quad exhaust pipes and several chrome signatures in the side profile aim to give it a premium look.
From what we gather from reports, the Kia K8 is based on the rear-wheel drive platform of the Genesis G70. Under the bonnet, a V6 engine seems certain for North America, while a 2.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine could give it company in Europe and global markets.

A petrol-electric hybrid/plug-in hybrid variant in the mid-cycle update of the Kia Stinger would not come as a surprise as the company announced last year that it plans to offer 11 eco-friendly models by 2020 using hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains.
The Kia K8 could be unveiled at the NAIAS 2017, enthusiast blogs claim.
