Summer 2017 for the Hyundai Motor Group is about B-SUVs. The Hyundai Kona debuted first, and just a week later, the Kia Stonic followed. Here are real world photos of the Kia Stonic from its premiere in South Korea, courtesy Motorgraph.

The Kia Stonic competes with sister brand Hyundai's Kona, as well as the Honda HR-V, Ssangyong Tivoli and Toyota C-HR.

First things first, the Kia Stonic is not an exact mechanical twin of the Hyundai Kona. Lee Kwang-guk, executive vice president of Hyundai Motor's South Korean sales division, has confirmed this.

At the tape, the Kia Stonic is 4,140 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width and 1,500 mm/1,520 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. There's 352 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,155 litres on folding the rear seats.

The South Korean-spec Kia is powered by the U2 1.6-litre E-VGT diesel engine as standard. Paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, this mill develops 110 PS and 30.6 kgf.m (300.08 Nm). Front-wheel drivetrain layout is standard, and there's no option for an all-wheel drive system. Kia claims a fuel economy of 17 km/l in this configuration.
