After creating a stir in the 200-400cc segment in the Indian two-wheeler market, KTM diverted its attention to the 125 cc space and introduced the original pocket rocket, the 125 Duke ABS. However, do not let the 125 cc tag fool you as the motorcycle uses a DOHC, 4-valve, liquid-cooled engine that enables it to deliver a healthy 14.5 PS of maximum power and 12 Nm of peak torque.

So, how fast can the 125 Duke go? Watch the top-speed run of the KTM 125 Duke ABS in the video:

We could clock a top speed of 109 km/h during the test ride at Bajaj’s Chakan plant but the motorcycle was still a few revs away from its redline, and a longer stretch would have seen even higher figure. The video uses the GPS speedometer of the action camera that gives an accurate reading of the top speed. The rider achieved a top speed of 110 km/h on the first run and 107 on the second and third attempt. The fourth attempt saw the GPS speedometer clock 108 km/h.

KTM 125 Duke has replaced the 200 Duke as the entry-level model in the Indian market. However, the baby Duke comes at a premium and has been priced at INR 1.18 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The premium price tag is a result of the hardware that the 125 Duke features. Apart from the engine, the 125 Duke uses all the components from the 200 Duke. Thus, buyers get a trellis frame, upside down telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Moreover, the motorcycle has disc brakes on both wheels and the safety net of single-channel ABS comes as standard.

Do note that the safety norms mandate the installation of ABS on all two-wheeler above 125 cc while all products below that should receive CBS. However, KTM opted to offer a premium experience to the buyers and thus installed an ABS system on the 125 Duke.

The KTM 125 Duke uses all the components from the 200 Duke including the chassis, suspension, brakes, instrument console and body panels. The engine on the 125 Duke is a re-bored and re-stroked version of the 200 cc motor.

There is no direct rival to the 125 Duke in terms of displacement but the motorcycle does carry a premium price tag than some of the 200 cc bikes in the Indian market. The 125 Duke targets young buyers who are looking for a way to join the KTM family.
