IAB Report - JLR's new Brazilian plant to make Land Rover Discovery Sport
The new facility is located at Itatiaia in the State of Rio de Janeiro.
On the sidelines of the ongoing 2014 Sao Paulo International Motor Show, Jaguar Land Rover has announced that the Land Rover Discovery Sport will be one of the first products to be made at its new Brazilian facility in Itatiaia, Rio de Janeiro
Scheduled to become operational in 2016, the Itatiaia unit will generate 400 jobs initially which will be almost doubled by the end of the decade. Further, 1,000 indirect employment opportunities will be created.
The British automaker will invest 240 million pounds (around INR 2,360 crore) in the new manufacturing unit until the end of 2020. The annual production capacity will stand at 24,000 units which will be used to cater to the Brazilian market apart from supplementing the UK facility.
JLR has announced that site construction will commence towards the end of this year. The Brazilian facility will be JLR's first wholly-owned manufacturing facility outside UK (the recently opened Chinese plant is co-owned by Chery).
