Only Lexus LS to fulfil the demand for large sedans.

The fourth generation Lexus GS arrived in 2011 and was expected to phase out next year, making way for the fifth generation model. However, a new report from Mag-X says that's unlikely to happen.

The Lexus GS (pictured) was renewed in 2011 and was expected to undergo another lifecycle makeover next year.

According to Lexus Enthusiast, the Japanese magazine's piece translated in English says that after studying the Lexus GS' image and positioning in the Lexus line-up, Toyota Motor Corporation reached a conclusion that the car doesn't/won't play a desired role in the line-up. With that thought, it decided to suspend the development of the next-gen Lexus GS. Lexus is yet to respond to this report.

The all-new Lexus LS was the reason the parent company thought that the next-gen Lexus GS won't have the desired potential in the market. While the previous LS was offered with V8 engines, the latest LS is stretched with the V6 option, which would create product overlap. With the next-gen GS out of question, Lexus can employ more resources in the production UX crossover.

With the redesigned Lexus GS cancelled, Lexus may extend the life of the current model beyond 2018 with minor cosmetic changes. The Lexus GS' discontinuation could also have an impact on the Toyota Crown's future.
