Limited Edition Toyota Corolla Altis launched to turbo-charge sales

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is not done with releasing special editions of its cars. IAB readers were told back in August to expect special editions of the Etios, Innova and Fortuner by December 2012.

Today, the most popular brand of the lot, the Corolla, has received a bundle of cosmetic inclusions. This is the second limited edition model for the Altis, after the 'Aero edition' was launched a few months ago.

The special edition celebrates 10 years of the Corolla nameplate in India. The Altis may feel very special on this day, but it has the aim of reclaiming market leadership at the back of its mind. With the current generation model, this may not be possible. The next generation Corolla is tipped to roll out next year, and that's the model Toyota India will be eager to sell to sail past the Cruze and Elantra.

However, unlike most special editions that add extra equipment and glorify the top-end variant, this attempt is on the low-end variant.

The exterior of the Altis special edition is distinguished with a new grille, reprofiled rear combination lamps, mildly modified rear bumper, and a limited edition badge at the back.

The interior is defined by the 5.8-inch touchscreen audio system that is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, a new four-spoke steering wheel and keyless entry. These features are added to the Corolla J, which is the bare-bones entry variant.

The Corolla Altis limited edition can be availed in petrol and diesel options. The base petrol variant (1.8L engine) is launched at Rs. 11.45 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai), while the diesel version (1.4L engine) sets you back by Rs. 12.84 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai).

Without revealing the production quantity, Toyota has dispatched vehicles to dealerships.
