Locally assembled Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R sold out in India - Report

On 29 June, India Kawasaki Motors launched the locally-assembled Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and the Ninja ZX-10RR. Both the bikes have sold out in India within 15 days of their launch, according to a report from Autocar India.

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and Ninja ZX-10RR are sold out as a result of the significant price drop of around INR 6 lakh because of the local assembly.

Earlier, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and ZX-10RR were available as CBU imports and priced from INR 18.80 lakh (ex-showroom). The locally assembled motorcycles are offered at an introductory price of INR 12.80 lakh and INR 16.10 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively for the Ninja ZX-10R and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR.

It resulted in a massive price cut of INR 6 lakh, which generated a tremendous response to the litre class bikes. India Kawasaki Motors has received close to 100 bookings for these motorcycles within the first 15 days of their launch. Such is the demand that the company has directed its dealerships to stop further reservations for the Ninja ZX-10R with immediate effect.

The new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is available in the KRT edition paint scheme with few graphical changes, while the 2018 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR is only available in black. Deliveries of the motorcycles will start with a few months, and there is likely to be a waiting period of 2-3 months. The Ninja ZX-10R is highly successful in the World Superbike Championship, winning three successive titles.

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R employs a 998 cc, liquid-cooled, inline four, engine that produces 197 bhp of maximum power at 13,000 rpm and 113.5 Nm of peak torque at 11,500 rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle gets a top-speed of 299 kph, while it sprints from 0-100 kph sprint in 2.8 seconds.

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R comes with various rider aids like traction control(S-KTRC), Kawasaki launch control (KLCM), multi-level power modes, switchable ABS control (KIBS), Kawasaki Quick Shifter, cornering management (KCMF) and engine braking function (KEBC), while an inertial measuring unit (IMU) controls all the rider aids.

The locally assembled Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR costs INR 16.10 lakh, while the Ninja ZX-10R gets a price tag of INR 12.80 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi).

The locally made Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR and the Ninja ZX-10R are offered as single-seat models to avoid homologation requirements like providing pillion footrests and engineering a saree guard. The Kawasaki ZX-10R rivals the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Yamaha YZF-R1, BMW S1000RR and Suzuki GSX1000R among others.
