Locally assembled Ninja 300 continues to fuel India Kawasaki's sales

The locally assembled Kawasaki Ninja 300 registered 118 units in November 2018, against 28 units in the corresponding month last year. The Ninja 300 last month was the highest-selling product of India Kawasaki Motor, followed by Ninja 650 (30 units), Ninja 1000 (20 units), Z650 and Z900 (17 units each).

The locally assembled Kawasaki Ninja 300 (with ABS) undercuts the CBU model (without ABS) by INR 62,000. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard in India.

Before the localised Ninja 300 was introduced, Kawasaki sold 2 units of the motorcycle in April 2018 (vs 15 in April 2017), and two units in May 2018 (vs 28 units in May 2018). Sales for June and July stood at nil while August witnessed another 2 unit sales.

However, the picture changed around the festival season when deliveries of the locally assembled motorcycles begun. 228 units of the Ninja 300 were sold in September 2018 (vs 32 units in September 2017), recording a 613 per cent growth and 102 units were sold in October 2018.

The locally assembled Ninja 300 is available with dual-channel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and is priced at INR 2.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In comparison, the CBU model of the motorcycle without ABS for sold at INR 3.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The motorcycle comes in lime green/ebony and candy plasma blue colour options.

The  296 cc liquid-cooled, parallel twin cylinder, DOHC, 8-valve engine generates 39 PS of maximum power at 11,000 rpm and 27 Nm of peak torque at 10,000 rpm. The motor is connected to a 6-speed gearbox and features assist & slipper clutch.

The Ninja 300 gets locally produced body panels, tires, wheels, wiring and brakes that contribute to the competitive price tag.

The aggressive pricing makes the Ninja 300 an appealing deal against its direct rival, the Yamaha YZF-R3. Besides the Ninja 300, Kawasaki had launched the Ninja 400 in India in April 2018 at INR 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
