Mahindra's 155cc commuter spied ahead of launch this year

Will rival the Bajaj V.

In early-2014, it was reported that Mahindra is working on a new sub-200 cc commuter, and in January 2016, IAB reported that this model will be introduced this year. Now, a test mule of the upcoming 155 cc commuter has been spied uncamouflaged, courtesy Thrust Zone.

The new 155 cc commuter will be based on an all-new chassis and feature a newly developed, BS-IV compliant engine.

The new motorcycle's simplistic design doesn't appear to be retro, rather its appearance is purely utilitarian. It's yet to be known what the new commuter will be named, but one thing that's known for certain is that it will have newly developed chassis and engine. Both the chassis and engine are under development at the company's R&D centre in Pune, Maharashtra.

Since 1 April, 2016, it has been mandatory for new two-wheelers to comply with BS-IV emission norms. In effect, the new engine will also be developed to be BS-IV compliant. As of January, the new engine was understood to be undergoing its final stages of testing.

The new 155 cc commuter will bridge the big gap between the Mahindra Centuro and the Mahindra Mojo.

The new 155 cc commuter will bridge the big gap between the Mahindra Centuro which is offered in five variants, and the Mahindra Mojo. The model seen in the spyshot doesn't have a disc brake, but the production version will likely be available with a disc brake and more contemporary features.
