Mahindra's all-new MPV (Toyota Innova rival) shows its side profile

Expected to launch in India next year.

Autocar India has published a spyshot of the all-new MPV from Mahindra, giving us a clear look at its side profile and overall dimensions. The as-yet-unnamed MPV is expected to launch in India in 2017, followed by global markets, and will rival the Toyota Innova Crysta.

The MPV is expected to be based on a monocoque platform.

According to reports, the MPV is the first project to have been developed by Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Troy, Michigan. It is likely to be based on a monocoque platform and sport a front-wheel drive architecture.

Power for the MPV is expected to come from Mahindra's mHawk diesel engine, which is currently available in a downsized 1.99-liter state for markets in Delhi-NCR and Kerala where large diesel engines (diesel engines displacing more than 2,000 cc) are banned. A petrol engine could also be in the offering.

Initially, Mahindra would target private buyers with the new MPV, though later in the later part, the company might offer the product for fleet/taxi operators. Toyota is following a similar strategy with the Innova Crysta wherein initially, sales are exclusive for private buyers.
