Mahindra Bolero gets BS-VI certification and gains new safety features
Mahindra has announced that its highest selling UV (utility vehicle) Bolero has received BS-VI certification from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT). Another development today is the introduction of new safety features to make it compliant with the AIS-145 safety norms.
The BS-VI compliant Bolero will only be launched in the market by early 2020. Commenting on the announcement, Rajan Wadhera, President (Automotive Sector), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said: “As the first milestone in our BS-VI readiness journey, we are delighted to get the BS-VI certification for the Bolero Power+. The Bolero is one of our highest selling SUVs and has been the first UV (Utility Vehicle) to be certified as BS-VI ready by the ICAT.”
Earlier this month, Mahindra introduced ABS in the Bolero+. Now, it has announced that it has added airbag, speed alert system, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder, manual override for the central locking system and reverse parking sensors to the Bolero. The product website is yet to be updated to reflect these changes.

The Bolero garners the strongest sales for Mahindra and the company wants to play safe by not introducing any big changes that are too costly and just upgrading the existing model as per the latest market demands. The company says that the Bolero Power+, Bolero PLUS (9-seater), as well as the Bolero Ambulance will receive the necessary upgrades. By this, it means that along with BS-VI upgrade, these utility vehicles will get a higher bonnet, a softer bumper and a redesigned grille with a minor refresh in order to comply with even the upcoming more stringent pedestrian safety norms.
