Mahindra Marazzo off to a decent start, waiting period soars to 45 days

The Mahindra Marazzo was launched at Rs 9.99 lakh onward on 3 September and seems to have pleased its target audience. From readers as well as dealers we spoke to, IAB learns that variants of the company's latest MPV command a waiting period of 30 - 45 days.

The Mahindra Marazzo slots between the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova in terms of pricing.

Mahindra is reportedly targetting monthly sales of 4,000 units of its latest product. By the turn of the financial year, the company could expand the production capacity to 7,000 units, if demand for the new model improves. In August, Dr Pawan Goenka, MD of M&M Automotive sector, had said the combined monthly sales expectation of the Marazzo, S201 and Rexton is about 8,500 units.

Powering the Mahindra Marazzo is a 1.5-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 121 hp @ 3,500 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm @ 1,750 - 2,500 rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. In spite of having a ladder-frame construction, the new model has a transversely mounted engine that powers the front wheels. The patented ‘Best of both World’ architecture leads to reduced floor height and a flat floor while offering the traditional benefits of a ladder frame platform. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency for Mahindra's latest MPV is 17.3 kmpl.

The Mahindra Marazzo claims to offer lowest-in-class NVH levels. The company has used crank-offset technology, which cuts down on the vibrations by 38%. Advanced dual mass flywheel technology has been used to reduce the engine rattle.

The Mahindra Marazzo is the first jointly designed product of the company's Mumbai-based design centre and Pininfarina. Moreover, it is the first product that has been developed in cooperation between Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Troy, USA, and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai, India.

The aircraft-inspired surround cooling system of the Mahindra Marazzo is claimed to offer the fastest cooling in its class through diffused and direct airflow.
