While the market name of the Mahindra S201 will be revealed later today, Autocar reports that the company intends to revive its alphanumeric nomenclature system by naming its Maruti Vitara Brezza-rivalling SUV as the 'XUV300'.

While the Mahindra S201 will be reportedly called the XUV300, the official name announcement will take place later today.

The Mahindra S201, nay, the XUV300 will be the spiritual successor to the likes of Quanto, TUV300 and NuvoSport. That said, unlike the earlier compact SUVs, the new model won't be a utilitarian offering built on a traditional ladder-frame chassis. Instead, like the XUV500, it will be underpinned by a monocoque platform.

Based on the Ssangyong Tivoli, the Mahindra S201 (XUV300) measures less than four metres in length. The front-end is lavished with LED headlamps with U-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights, a six-slot grille that is typical of all Mahindra models, and a new bumper with a different air intake. The rear-end gets horizontally-placed LED taillamps, a new bumper, and a new tailgate with the number plate housing.

As confirmed in the latest as well as earlier spy images, the interior of the S201 will be almost exactly like that of the Tivoli and benefit from the Korean SUV's feature-richness. The cabin wears a beige & brown colour theme with silver trim around the aircon vents and on the steering wheel. The dash sports a touchscreen infotainment unit that is likely to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are several cubby holes around the cabin. The gearlever is flanked by two cup holders at one end as well as a storage area below the centre console. The front door pockets can carry a couple of bottles each, while even both the rear doors offer a bottle holder. Furthermore, there's a storage space right above the glovebox.

Electric sunroof and dual-zone automatic climate control are likely reserved to the top-spec variant. The safety features include all-wheel disc brakes, seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, and front and rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera.

The front door pockets of the Mahindra S201 offer two bottle holders each. The Maruti Vitara Brezza challenger will launch next month and is expected to have a starting price of INR 6.5 lakh

Engine options for the Mahindra S201 (XUV300) will reportedly include a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel motor. The latter comes from the Marazzo and produces 121 bhp and 300 Nm. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Details of the petrol option aren't available at the moment, but it's likely to offer class-leading performance figures.
