Mahindra has started testing the Mahindra S201 with additional production body components, including the tail lamps. CarWale has posted a spy shot of a Mahindra S201 prototype having its tail lamps exposed while undergoing road testing.

While the SsangYong Tivoli has vertical tail lamps, the Mahindra S201 features horizontally set units.

The Mahindra S201 is more than a rebadged version of the SsangYong Tivoli. While the SsangYong Tivoli has quite oddly designed vertical tail lamps, the Mahindra S201 has horizontal tail lamps, a shorter tailgate and different bumper. At the front, expect the six-slot toothed grille for it to have a typical Mahindra model look. Spyshots also confirm a complete reskin to bring the S201 in line with the Mahindra family design.

While the SsangYong Tivoli measures 4.2 metres long, the Mahindra S201’s length will not exceed four metres, so that it can qualify as a small car that attracts the lowest taxes. For the same reason, Mahindra won’t offer it with the SsangYong Tivoli’s 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. It will go for a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine instead.

The Mahindra S201 may feature a six-slot toothed front grille.

The Mahindra S201’s market launch could take place in H2 2018, after the Mahindra U321 and Mahindra TUV300 Plus.
