Feature-laden Mahindra Scorpio S9 launched at INR 13.99 lakh [Video]

M&M has rolled out a new high-end trim of the Scorpio. On sale at an ex-showroom price of INR 13.99 lakh, the Mahindra Scorpio S9 slots below the S11 trim but carries most of the equipment that's available on the top-spec variant.

Speaking on the introduction of the S9, Mahindra - Chief of Sales and Marketing - Automotive Division, Veejay Ram Nakra said-

Scorpio changed the landscape of the Indian Auto Industry & continues to be a dominant force in the SUV segment. The new Scorpio S9 offers a great feature package at an attractive price point making it a compelling buy for customers looking for a true-blue SUV, while retaining Scorpio's core DNA of power, driving thrill and adventure.

The newly introduced Mahindra Scorpio S9 competes with the lower versions of the XUV500 and Tata Hexa on the price front.

With the launch of the new variant, the Mahindra Scorpio is now available in 5 trim options - S3, S5, S7, S9, and S11. The recently introduced S9 model has been priced INR 1.14 lakh lower to the S11 trim but is INR 60,000 costlier than the S7 version.

All variants feature a 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine. For the S3 and S5, the motor has been tuned to output 120 bhp and 280 Nm. It comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The S7 can be ordered in either the lower state of tune or in a 140 hp/320 Nm version with a 6-speed manual transmission. The S9 and S11 trims are offered in the higher power-tune with a six-speed manual transmission only. A Four Wheel Drive system is available exclusively on the top-spec S11 trim.

The equipment list of the S9 includes static bender projector headlamps, LED light guides, ORVMs with turn indicators, fog lamps, hydraulic assisted bonnet, cushion suspension with anti-roll technology, automatic climate control, dual front airbags with ABS, cornering projector headlamps, 5.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, multifunction steering wheel, and cruise control.

On 24 November, M&M will introduce the much-awaited Alturas (Indian-spec Ssangyong Rexton) to compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
