Mahindra confirms all-new SUV based on Ssangyong X100 platform
X100 platform underpins the Ssangyong Tivoli SUV.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Pawan Goenka, Executive Director of Mahindra has confirmed that an all new SUV will be introduced in the Indian market. It will be based on the Ssangyong X100 platform that also underpins the India-bound Ssangyong Tivoli, and could be positioned below the Korean SUV.
Apart from its confirmation, details on the new Mahindra SUV are scarce. The SUV will introduce an all new 1.5L petrol engine which will also be offered in the their current range of compact SUVs like the TUV300 and NuvoSport. It's unclear if the diesel variant will source the 1.6 unit from the Tivoli, or introduce an all new engine.
At the FIA Formula E championship in London, Dr Goenka confirmed that Mahindra is working on two new platforms, one of which will underpin an SUV due to arrive in the next 14 or 15 months. The second new platform will be introduced in a product a year after that.
